Tabak testifies at 'Overseeing the Overseers' hearing on EcoHealth grant oversight

One day after HHS announced suspension and proposed debarment of EcoHealth Alliance, NIH Principal Deputy Director Lawrence Tabak testified under oath that NIH's forensic audit found no system lockout that would have prevented EcoHealth's on-time Year-5 report (contradicting Daszak's testimony), that NIH never received the requested WIV lab notebooks or metadata, and that increased viral growth 'does not necessarily mean increased pathogenicity.' He reiterated NIH's position that grant-studied viruses were too evolutionarily distant to be SARS-CoV-2's progenitor and that the funded work was not gain-of-function under the regulatory definition.
